Local Food Leader (LFL) 101 is an individual, skill-building certification for food systems practitioners or those looking to be more engaged in their local food system. This certification teaches foundational competencies critical for successful food systems development. Participants complete activities and homework individually and participate in facilitated learning circles within a cohort. Participants who complete the course will receive a certificate of completion in Local Food Leader 101.

Local Food Leader 201 offers an in-depth, self-paced education for food systems practitioners. Primary focus areas include food system common language, creating plans of work, understanding equity across the food system, coalition facilitation, and evaluation.

This workshop is designed to instruct participants on Iowa policies and regulations, food safety basics, food-borne illness, and food safety practices from the point of production to the point of sale. Our goal is to provide those working in home-based food operations with the proper knowledge and tools to safely and effectively operate their business to the best of their ability. You will be provided with instructional videos and assessed on the subject matter covered. An array of resources are also provided for extra information regarding each topic we discuss.

Mapping and visual aids are helpful tools to express concerns or opportunities for new projects or existing issues within businesses and organizations.  This online curriculum offers both a step by step process to develop place-based maps and assessments, as well as tools to enhance a business feasibility study or proposal. Participation in this program will lead to new skills in mapping techniques, unique input models to garner feedback, comprehensive reports utilizing qualitative and quantitative information, resources to find necessary data for decision making on multiple scales from business development, organizational work and community food systems assessments.
