The Essentials Child Care Preservice Series provides useful information for creating safe and healthy early childhood and school-age care environments. This series also includes helpful information on child development, cultural diversity and homelessness.
This is an online, self-paced class. And it is free!

- Receive up to 12-hours of professional development credit and a certificate for each module completed.
- This training meets Iowa Department of Human Services (DHS) licensing requirements for Child Care Preservice training requirements.
- Your certificate expires 5 years from the date on your Essentials module certificates.
- Effective December 11, 2019: All child care providers will NOT be required to re-take the Essentials Child Care Preservice Series; however: If you CHOOSE to take the series again and 5 years has passed, it will count towards your total credit hours for that year, which aligns with all other professional development opportunities.

The Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale 3 is a
nationally recognized scale that evaluates the quality of preschool-age
programs. In this 4-part series participants will learn about the ECERS-3
and how to use it for self-assessment. Participants will evaluate
their own program and begin to create an action plan to make quality
changes in their preschool program environment. Each registered
participants MUST attend all 4 online live sessions and complete all
out-of-class activities. If you miss an online live session you have
dropped the course and must retake the entire series. Center program
directors/ supervisors can earn points on the Iowa Quality Rating System
(QRS) by attending this series.
